Steps

  • Step 1

Vikings made huge ships that had heavy armor and ornate designs. Many Viking ships had carved images of sea creatures or other mythical beasts at their bow (front) and stern (back).

  • Step 2

Use Crayola® Scissors to cut the top of an empty tissue box so the panels that will become the front and back are only connected on the short sides of the box. Fold these short sides slightly, so there is a crease in the hinged (top) piece. This will be the highest point of your boat (on each end).

  • Step 3

Cut a long arc from the center top of the end to a low point, half-way down the long side of your box. Then cut back up to the top of the other end. Repeat on the other side of your ship.

  • Step 4

Punch several oar holes in each long side of your ship, near the bottom. Poke bamboo skewers or dowels in the holes for oars. Create oar blades by forming flat ovals with Crayola Model Magic. Press oars into the blades. Secure with Crayola School Glue.

  • Step 5

Use a skewer or dowel for the center mast. Cut another skewer in half. Tie this crosspiece across the mast with string. Create a base for the mast with Model Magic®. Glue the base to the center of the ship's floor. Glue the mast into the base.

  • Step 6

Shape a mythical beast's head and tail with Model Magic. Glue them to the bow and stern.

  • Step 7

Cover a table with recycled newspaper. Paint your ship and/or beast with Crayola Washable Kid's Paint and Paint Brushes. Dry.

  • Step 8

Facial tissues are perfect to make your Viking ship sail! Draw marker images on your sail. Tie the top two corners of the sail to the ends of your crosspiece with string. Tie the bottom corners to your ship.

  • Step 9

Add shields and other decorations. Cut the bottoms from paper cups for shields, for example, and glue to your ship's sides. Cut construction paper flags for the mast. Decorate with Crayola Markers or Gel Markers and Crayola Glitter Glue. Add craft items s
