Supplies Needed

Gather all the supplies needed to bring your craft ideas to life! From paints and markers to glue and scissors, our crafts section has everything to spark creativity and make every project truly special.

  • Baking Soda
  • Craft Stick
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Mixing Bowl(s)
  • Water
  • Wood Plaque

Steps

  • Step 1

    In mixing bowl, combine 2 Tbsp baking soda and 1 Tbsp water with craft stick, creating a paste.

  • Step 2

    Pour 2 oz paint into separate mixing bowl. Add baking soda mixture to paint and stir until smooth.

  • Step 3

    Cover wood plaque with paint mixture. Dry 1–2 hours. Add second coat. Dry 1–2 hours.

  • Step 4

    Write message on plaque with chalk!

CIY Staff Tips

  • To erase, dab plaque with a damp paper towel. Let dry completely before writing a new message.
  • Chalkboards don’t need to be black! Experiment with different colors of acrylic paint using the same chalkboard paint recipe.
